Katzefet

Regardless of where you are, it is time for ice cream somewhere. I am not beyond starting my day with a scoop and it is the perfect night cap to a long day. Fortunately, Israel is loaded with some excellent creamery options to wash down that delicious lunch, dinner, or even breakfast. Israel also uses a higher percentage of cream/fat when making gelato and ice cream, offering a richer taste. But, do not fret, all of the portions are significantly smaller than back in the old country.

I will focus on some ice cream establishments that have locations throughout Israel and offer pareve and Dairy options for the meat eaters that are not Dutch, following along at home.

Katzefet, like all of the better ice cream joints in Israel, have a few locations. Their flagship is on Ben Yehuda street and it froze them as the leaders of the ice cream locations in Israel, for a while. When my kids were little I remember bribing them with Katzefet. It was a sweet treat and unparalleled. Lines around the corner. Today, the lines are still present, but mainly from people that have no standard when it comes to ice cream.

The flavors are bland, there is little gelato and few exciting flavorful options and the sorbet options are pretty weak.

For me, Katzefet has melted from the leaders of the ice cream makers in Israel to the drippings on our fingers. I look forward to them getting back into the game. Until then, not sure if the investment is worthy.
