More like silver burger, but still unique and tasty!

The hamburger seems to beckon Jews of all stripes and backgrounds. As if it were hidden from us all of our years in exile that we crave it wherever we might be. It is a staple of the coveted Jewish food that we all seem to flock towards.

I remember eating the Big Kahuna years ago at Norman’s on Emek (and enshrining my name on the wall) and even before that, Mc Davids which was one of the first fast food burgers in this country. Burgers Bar started as a single location and took off to a successful franchise quickly based on its good eats. Mc Donalds was featured at the recent 4th of July celebrations in Jerusalem and proudly celebrated 40 years in Israel.

The burger itself here is fine. Not great and not terrible. It is fried and simple. The grecian rolls is lathered up with tons of margarine and almost slips off your hand from the oil. It is indeed messy to eat. Fortunately, Golden Burger has a serious wet-wipe game.

The two claims to fame of Golden Burger are that it has a secret sauce, which seems to just be mayonnaise with a touch of chili flake and relish. And, they cut this burger in half and then grill the sides down, to give a char finish. It is appealing to the eyes, but not sure if it affects the taste. It only offers a mild crispyness. The grease factor was high and made me feel pretty gross afterwards, even though I did enjoy this burger. But it is not game-changing or a place I need or want to go back to anytime soon. The French fries here are really fried chips. Think Ruffles, but cut thicker and soaked long and deep in the canola oil. They were decent but did not change the grade of the place.

I have been told by some - who might or might not be my kid on a gap year in Israel - that Golden Burger is a perfect place when mildly inebriated and craving a greasy bite. It does hit the spot on the grease factor and gap-year kids might have a lower threshold for good eats.

Overall, worthy of a silver burger ranking. Not Golden to me, but not bronze either!.
