Kulei Alma - this soupery hits the spot!

On a cold, rainy day, the Yekka Jew in me hungers for a delicious bowl of soup. The older I get, the more I appreciate soup.  While I am here the longest and write most extensively for the 2platesolution.com during the summers, I am often here during the winter season too. And nothing hits the spot on a cold and rainy day better than the soup at Alma.

Alma is Israel’s answer to Hale and Hearty.

There are multiple locations for this soupery (I made that up – but If Yonah Schimmel can call his place a knishery, I think I can pull this off) and each sell a similar product. They specialize in a variety of kubbeh soups which can serve as a meal and a hot drink. They also serve lentil or vegetable soups, vegan options and even old fashioned chicken soup. Each place looks like a pop up at a county fair and the staff look like they are kids from a temp agency. But do not let that confuse you to the deliciousness of their soups.

They have no more and no less that soups, made to be taken away, and enjoyed. There is no place to sit down and slurp your bowl.

Standing in line next to you, one can find those looking for a quick lunch or dinner. Others will want a 3PM snack and some might pick up a few pints to ease the burden of Shabbat cooking.

Regardless of what you are looking for, Kulei Alma – (thank you very much) that Alma is a solid and economical choice for a quite tasty treat!
