The meat alternative just a 9-iron away from the dairy spot, that gives Bruno a run for its money!

Less than 120 yards or any par 3 I ever had a chance of getting on the green in regulation of, sits the newest child of Rachel Benalul, the creator and mastermind behind Rachel Ba S’dera.

Like most Mizrahi paces, they struggle with creative names (ask me offline about my bit/shtick I am pitching to Eretz Nehederet about this). Alas, this one is called, Rachel Basedera. Same name. Same logo. Many of the same staff. Just this place serves meat, lots of wine on display and a totally different decor and meal.

Speaking of decor, there was not space for more than 10 people to dine outside and no room inside. Like the counterpart, the thick of the business is WOLT/Tein Bis and take away. Still, it is a charming place to sit and enjoy a meal, if space is available.

My wife and I were the first customers of the day and were eager to try some sandwiches. We were strongly encouraged to try the Ramban, which was an Assado beef cooked with onion, spices and some kick and married on to a delicious hoagie bun with pesto, olive tapenade, marinated peppers (eat your heart out Junior Soprano) and pickled onions. Then a bed of greens and pickles were added to the hoagie and the meat was delicately placed on top. The top layer of the hoagie was added and then the bread was hand toasted and masterfully cut.

This sandwich was delicious. I immediately got Bruno vibes when eating here, but it was different than Bruno, with much more garden in it, but equally as tasty and fun. It is hard to describe what made it so different, but it was decidedly so. Perhaps it was the plentiful options of deli meats and less cooked dishes?!

Rachel BaS’dera Meat Menu

I could only eat one half of my sandwich and am excited to try the balance later.

My wife had the salad with mixed meat. This was also a hearty portion that makes for 2-3 meals, minimum. It was fresh and tasty and left us eager to try more.

As we were finishing the meal they began the process of slicing the aged and smoked deli meats and and the custom made sausages, that had loads of spicy in it. This got my appetite revved up to come back and try more.

When the bill came it was VERY reasonable. Under $40 and that included drinks. I am eager to get the word out BaS’dera that this place is up, running and a delicious and refreshing meat bite.
