A simple and non memorable restaurant with an equally bland menu.

The Israeli version of Appleby’s is called Lechem VeBassar. By that I mean, it is a plain and simple menu, multiple locations and will leave you satisfied but most likely, underwhelmed. The menu is simple, with no “go-to” items and the food is tasty, but simple. Technically it is translated to bread and meat, they call it Meat & Eat.

I have eaten at three locations of Lechem VeBassar, which loosely translates to Bread and Meat: Herziliya, Tel Aviv and Jerusalem and my experience at all three were identical. The service was OK, the food was a touch better than that. Two of these locations, Tel Aviv and Jerusalem are wonderful. Jerusalem is on the Rakevet – First Station that allows for great people watching, which is a welcome aside since the food will not capture your attention. Tel Aviv is near the boardwalk and merry go ‘round and the backdrop of the Mediterranean. The Herziliya location is also on the alcove surrounding the harbor and near the Ritz Carlton Hotel.

With all of these prime locations and views, Lechem VeBassar is still mediocre food. Nothing on the menu will blow your hair back but, nothing will cause you indigestion. The prices are fair.

I wish I could tell you to try certain items because it will change your day. Short of the foccacia and burger, which is top of the menu, there is little else that will rock your world.
