An Institution that welcomes you to the City of Gold with Sephardic dishes and a taste of yesterday!

My first trip to Israel was in 1990. I am pretty sure Ima’s was exactly where it is today, at the bottom of Agrippas Street and at the entrance to Jerusalem, welcoming tourists and natives to the City of David and its simple tastes. In fact, it has been there since 1981! No small feat for the culinary minded critics. To last that long makes Ima’s a blue-chip of Jerusalem eateries!

The decor is as ancient as the restaurant, with stone-made, moorish arches inside the restaurant and a feel of yesterday and aromas that linger, all which brings you back to the kitchen of Savta from yesteryear!

The predictable concept behind Ima’s is the comfort foods the Mizrahi mom made for her strapping family. From Kubbeh soup to meaty hummus to stuffed peppers to kebabs on the grill, Ima’s, unlike the laser focus of Azura, has wonderful Sephardic treats with a deep bench on the menu.

Nothing will swerve you in the wrong direction here and, like pilgrims to the Kotel, regulars still make their way to this holy site, even when the competition has stiffened.

Ima’s is an institution. Enjoy this piece of Jerusalem culinary history. It earned its stripes fairly!
