An Israeli greasy spoon……but like really greasy!

This is the Israeli version of a greasy spoon except, they serve kebabs and shwarma….and they are greasy ones.

Located in the heart of Agrippas Street and the center of the Machane Yehuda Market this authentically Sephardic dive feels like you cross the threshold to Tiberias. The smoke filled ordering, the line jumping for a friend of a cousin of the owner and a sense of annoyance at serving a Yekka Jew all lent itself to the northern Galilean atmosphere.

Even with the grease and the limited menu items, the shwarma is decent and the kebabs flavorful. It just comes with a healthy dose of attitude.

If you time your visit right and come on a Thursday and Friday, you can also get a fresh Challah for Shabbat. People flock for them but they are not baked in house and will not share where they are from. But they sold like hot cakes.

I am not sure I would make a special trip for this rotating meat on a spit. But, if you want to try all of the local shipudiya and shwarma, it is worth adding to your index and it will not make you sad you did. Enjoy!
