Overall, a solid -  Ehhh

I ate at Picolino once a few years ago. The fact that I have not been back nor feel the desire to go back, even on extended trips, is telling. I did again recently and it did not move the needle.

Sometimes, I fear that restaurants that make it to Yoel Salomon street, (a highly coveted location) in Jerusalem feel that their food can be mediocre since their location is enviable. I was not raised that way. I strive for perfection in location and product, constantly. Picolino, to me offered only one. Sadly, it was location.

Firstly, the room for groups is cramped. Secondly, while the food is good, it is just……good. Not exceptional. For Israel, where the eating environment continues to up its game, you have to be better than most or have a niche to make your mark. Picolino misses that mark.

I do appreciate the angle of being dairy but, there is little that makes Picolino more compelling as a result. The fish is fine, the presentation is nice and the prices are fair.

If Picolino were a blind date, we would say he has a great personality.

If it is during the nine days, or you are a vegetarian, or you have time to try all the dairy places you choose, or you are taking out your nephew who just made Aliyah and is a hippy and doesn’t eat meat, this might be a great option. Otherwise, I have a few others on the list to put above Picolino!
