Southern Spain meets Jerusalem - Aribba and Andoley to this tapas place!

Guest Blogger - R. Andi Merow

Great ambiance inside and out at this Spanish Meat Tapas bar and restaurant. Located at Kikar Musica, there was live, older, (think 1970s) music playing in the Kikar (Square) which created a festive feel to the evening.

Our server knew the menu well and was eager to introduce us to their many homemade cocktails.

One friend had a delicious sweet drink made with local fresh fruit and tempered with a bit of bitters and an adequate amount of alcohol. It was nicely decorated with fresh mint and fruit.

When in Jerusalem and pretending to be in Spain, one orders like Jewish Spaniards with shared dishes. Our party chose a few order of Crocketas -Fried Asado balls with a spicy aioli. Brisket like meat fried within a crunchy, breaded exterior. The hearty beef pairs well with the crunch and the spice and was just enough to hold us over until the meal. We chose the very large tomahawk steak - enough for 5 to share. Cooked medium rare on the bone, the steak was full of flavor- a carnivore’s dream. It was served with simple Patatas Bravas, Spanish fried potatoes. It was good, but if you are going for the first time, order the salad or mushrooms - they are more interesting as sides and we loved them.

The Champinones, sautéed mushrooms, spinach, with pine nut cream and pistachios were creamy, with a bit of crunch and very tasty.. For me, a winner of the night was the simple Alachofa: a saled of artichokes, capers, cherry tomatoes, olives and herbs. The saled was sweet, light and refreshing. The subtle mix of herbs made it a great compliment to our heavier meat dishes. .

Since we came from far away, we thought it was worth getting one more large sharing plate.

We ordered the Plato de carnes - a large cutting board with Entrecote, Sirloin and Filet steaks, more croketas, potatoes and duck breast. This is a great option to try the stars of their menu. The food was tasty, though it took some time for all of our food to be cooked. This leaves you time for wine and cocktails. If you have ever yearned to go to a Tapas bar and try the Spanish flavors, but need a kosher one, look no further, this Kosher meat eatery is an excellent place to spend a lovely evening!
