Grand Cafe

A Grand and delightful experience where the Parisian atmosphere matches the food - without French people!

Often I crave a taste of France but loathe the idea of dealing with French people (sorry…..not sorry). Well I have figured out a way to achieve both.

On Derech Beit Lechem sits the Grand Cafe. While not oh so Grand in size, its tastes sure are!

The decor is one of the few places that lives up to its theme. Parisian through and through and its charm is contagious. It screams of the perfect meeting spot to catch up with a friend, work on your manuscripts or broker a multi-million shekel deal.

But beyond aesthetic and location are the eats and they complement the decor to a tee.

This dairy spot offers rich pastas, seasoned fish and delicious salads. But the desserts are its signature calling.

We enjoyed a tri-color quinoa with onions, a fantastic salad Nicoise with hints of Caesar (shaved Parmesan and a creamy dressing) but seared tuna and eggs soft-boiled to perfection. Fresh grilled vegetables were a great antipasto that prepped us well for the salmon and sea bass which were simply broiled and delightful. The gnocchi in cream sauce with sliced chestnuts was perfection. The artichoke ravioli was so tasty and sweet, I left wanting more.

But the best here is saved for last. Desserts!

By the way - desserts is stressed spelled backwards.

The apple cake was warm, not hot, just as it should be. The French macarons melted in our mouths. The cheesecake with cherry coulis was the best I have had in Israel and the cinnamon bread pudding was crunchy on top and soft in the middle. The crepe with rich cream made our mouths water. I will surely dream about all of these sweet treats this evening.

The Grand Cafe is a grand spot for breakfast, brunch, lunch or a light dinner and desserts. I cannot wait to see you there soon.
