Nocturno

Sleepy during the day but comes more alive at night.

Nocturno is true to its name. I chose to have brunch with a long time friend at this establishment and the staff was asleep.

After asking four times for water, three times for extra pesto and twice for coffee, I realized that nocturnal creatures were required to be staff. We had to wake the staff and ask to have for our order to be taken after sitting for more than 22 minutes! The wait staff left much to be desired!

When we asked the help what they recommend from the menu they had no suggestions or opinions. Not a ringing endorsement.

When the food did arrive it was O.K. The omelet was flavorful, but lets be fair. It is hard to screw up eggs. My friend ordered the vegan shakshuka. It was also, O.K. Nothing special about these tofu poached eggs. The other vegetarian options look their best on the menu and not on your plate.

The location of this restaurant is in the artist area next door to Betsalel School of Design. But that creativity did not bleed over to this location. There was no funk, excitement or vibe at this location.

This is a different kind of place at night. In fact, when the sun sets, this place changes its name to Noctuno Live. The bustling outdoor cafe moves inside and downstairs and morphs into a modern day speak-easy for entertainment, including music, comedy and more. While different senses can be fed at this location at night, I doubt one would choose this place just for the food. I have never chosen to attend a comedy club for the food, and doubt that is the case here as well.

True to its name, Nocturno will satisfy your entertainment senses at night but most likely not satiate your appetite during the day.
