Oh...Oh….Oh..its Aka…and ohhhh is it good!

Oh Oh Oh its Akoh.....you know. And wow is it magical?!

This small Turkish delight (pun intended) was recommended to me by my soon to be nephew, Matt Nelson. For a skinny guy, he nailed this eatery. At the time of penning this review, Israel and Turkey have restored its diplomatic relationship. The fruits of that experience is evident in Akoh!

This dive serves 4 things and 4 things only:
Goose breast sandwich.

Siniya

Fingerling potatoes fried in goose fat served with salsa verde

And, its signature veal and pistachio shawarma.

This is not a usual, shawarma. They call it a dunar. First of all, the veal is lean and seasoned unlike ANY other beef I have tried in Israel. Not better or worse, just differently. The shawarma has pistachios peppered throughout so each slice gets a nutty taste.

I imagine Bibi will love this place for that reason, alone, (IYKYK).

The laffa is not quite that. It is more like a thin, unsweetened crepe but more delicate than a tortilla. It is layered with nut based cream, a choice of tomatoes, onions, cilantro and amba, and more non-dairy yogurt, like a real gyro would. No hummus. No tehina. No falafel balls.

Each laffa is held up against the spit of the shawarma to absorb some of the meat sweat. The beef is all measured so no one gets more or less.

When they cut this bad-boy up for me and loaded it on my take-away tray, I could feel its heft. No skimping. While I tried it on a full stomach with every intention of a few bites and sharing with others, I ate the whole thing. It was phenomenal.

Again, this is a Turkish delicacy and worth the experience. I am so so so into Akoh!
