Brazilian Steak House….which is like an Argentinian steak house, just with a different flag hanging!

Ask If Pappagaio is an Argentinian steak house and you will get nasty looks and a firm rebuke. We are Brazilian. While I know what difference that is for a waxing, no clue the difference in grilled meats. Besides the Brazilian flag waving proudly over the grill, you would have to work hard to fool me this is not Argentinean.

Now that is out of the way, Pappagaio, Brazilian or Argentinian, is delicious.

Located in the Talpiot industrial district of Jerusalem, this location has oodles of space and is appointed simply but nicely. Each of the staff is fluent in English, since this is the main clientele.

The kitchen is open which to me is always a sign of confidence. It also allows the steam and aromas to waft towards the diners and allow them to salivate in preparation for the meal.

When in Rome….or in this case, Pappagaio, we followed the traditional conjuto (Portuguese for ‘together) selection of mixed meats served on a sizzling plate with some very fresh vegetables. This allows the meat to cook more to your liking and for the table to share a little bit of everything. There are 4 types of conjuto, all separated by gram size. Ours had chorizo, pargiyot, entrecôte, kebabs and liver. Each were EXCELLENT!

Sadly, they had run out of chimichurri sauce which is a real complement to dishes like these. Still, the mat was cooked perfectly, presented beautifully and was quite tasty. We did not waste any time with appetizers. We did have some rice and chips for slides. The rice came with brisket chunks on top, and surprisingly the fries were very good.

Equally surprising, this did not break the bank. 2 drinks and one large conjuto with sides was under $100.

Pappagaio is a meat-lovers restaurant. Regardless of where in South America your affinity lies, it is a place to eat at and enjoy!

PS - Worthy of note, there is a location in Herziliya also!
